French lawmakers will start debating on Monday a tax meant to force Internet giants like Amazon and Facebook to pay a 3% levy on digital turnover. Parliament will discuss the tax, which targets companies with 750 million euros ($842 million) in worldwide revenue and 25 million euros ($28.2 million) of French digital sales, over the next several weeks.
Mobile shopping startupDoteis announcing $12 million in new funding, as well as a new feature called Shopping Party. This feature will allow social media influencers, who have become a key part of the app, to share live video while browsing different products on Dote and chatting with fans. As for the funding, it was led by Goodwater Capital, with participation from Lightspeed Venture Partners and Harrison Metal. Dote has now raised a total of $23 million.
Made In, the Austin-based cookware company, on April 3 announced the closing of a $5 million seed funding round, led by Bonobos founder Brian Spaly. The company joins such brands as Great Jones, Potluck Kitchenware and Kickstarter-funded Misen in the crowded space.
Online food seller and technology company GrubMarket last week raised $25 million from a number of investors, including a venture capital fund backed by food and beverage giant Kraft Heinz Co. GrubMarket works with smaller farms and other suppliers to sell and deliver their items by way of its online store both to businesses — such as restaurants and stores of different sizes, as well as the plethora of food startups that prepare food for consumers.
